Several council members and I went to the Pine Bush for a year end hike. We searched the whole time for the Blue Karner Butterfly and found it at the end of the trail.

We had a very successful give and go this year. Despite eliminating the apartments and Dutch quad’s collection bin ending up serving as a dumpster, we managed to collect more items this year than last. We sent a truckload of furnishings to the homeless shelter at the First Lutheran church and the US Committee on Immigrants and Refugees. Two carloads of clothes went to Goodwill, two boxes of food went to the food pantry at First Lutheran and 4 boxes of blankets went to Peppertree Animal Rescue. Attached are some pictures of the haul.
Next week marks the third year we have run a move out program at UAlbany. This program is designed to reduce the amount of waste going to the landfill while helping out local charities. We will be collecting items on May 12, 13 and 14. We are always looking for help supervising the collection sites since it helps increase donations and makes sorting later on much easier. If you happen to have some free time to help out, contact the office at firstname.lastname@example.org 518-956-8120.
We are also looking for someone with a truck to help deliver the items do a local church on May 17th. Again, contact the office wtih any assistance you can provide.
Last year we were able to reduce our waste by 8% from the previous year in part due to this program. So please consider helping out if you can.
